For over a century, this building shaped metal. Now it shapes memories. Here's how we turned Toronto's forgotten ironworks into something you'll actually wanna tell your friends about.
Every brick, beam, and bolt tells a story. We're just the latest chapter in a building that's seen Toronto grow from a scrappy industrial town to the city it is today.
Thomas Ignivarion founded the forge right here on King Street. Back then, it was all about making industrial tools and hardware for the railroads pushing through Ontario. The place was noisy, hot, and honestly kinda dangerous by today's standards.
Peak production era. Over 200 workers hammering away, three shifts a day. During WWII, they pivoted to making parts for military vehicles. The building expanded twice during this period - you can still see where the old brick meets the newer sections.
Competition from overseas and changing manufacturing meant the forge closed its doors. For nearly 30 years, this place sat empty except for some artists who squatted here in the late 90s. Honestly, it got pretty rough.
We bought the property and spent four years carefully restoring what mattered while adding everything a modern hotel needs. Kept the original steel beams, the brick walls, even salvaged some of the old machinery you'll see in the lobby. It was a massive undertaking.
January 15th, we opened our doors as Ignivarion Forge Hotel. The name's a tribute to the building's roots, and we're pretty proud of what we've created - a place where you can feel the history but enjoy all the comforts you'd expect from a boutique hotel.
We kept the soul, upgraded everything else
Look, a hotel is only as good as the folks running it. We've assembled a team that actually gives a damn about making your stay memorable. No corporate robots here.
General Manager
Ran luxury properties in Vancouver and Montreal before falling in love with this project. Sarah's got 15 years in hospitality and a knack for remembering guests' names - even if you only stayed once two years ago. She's also obsessed with the building's architecture.
Executive Chef - Forge Bar & Restaurant
Toronto native who trained in Italy and worked under some big-name chefs before coming here. Marcus creates menus inspired by what steelworkers would've eaten - but, y'know, elevated. His ricotta gnocchi is legitimately life-changing.
Chief Concierge
Born and raised in Toronto, James knows every hidden gem in the city. Need tickets to that sold-out show? Restaurant reservation at the hottest spot? He'll make it happen. Also leads our historical tours and tells stories his grandfather (who worked at the forge) passed down.
Wellness Director
Certified in about a dozen different massage and wellness techniques, Priya designed our spa program from scratch. She believes in balancing the building's industrial energy with moments of total zen. Her signature "Forge & Flow" treatment is perfect after a long day.
Head of Hospitality & Events
David's the guy who makes sure conferences, weddings, and events actually run smoothly. He's weirdly calm under pressure and has backups for his backups. Previously managed events at major convention centres, but prefers the intimate vibe here.
Sommelier & Bar Manager
Elena curates our wine list and creates cocktails for the Forge Bar. She's really into natural wines and local spirits, and she'll talk your ear off about Ontario wineries if you let her. Her Old Fashioned uses a house-smoked maple syrup that's incredible.
We didn't just slap some paint on old walls and call it heritage. The restoration process was meticulous, working with Toronto's historical preservation society to maintain the building's integrity.
Original exposed brick? Check. Century-old steel beams? Still holding strong. Those massive factory windows that flood the place with natural light? Restored and double-glazed for efficiency.
We even kept some of the original forge equipment - you'll find pieces throughout the hotel, from the massive anvil in the lobby to smaller tools displayed in the hallways. Each piece has a story.
But we're not stuck in the past. Modern HVAC, soundproofing, high-speed internet, smart room controls - we've integrated all that stuff without compromising the building's character. It's possible to respect history while enjoying present-day comfort.
Discover Our Heritage ToursWe're not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Toronto. There are plenty of those already, and they're great at what they do.
What we're about is creating a space where the building's industrial past isn't just decoration - it's part of the experience. Where you can touch 130-year-old brick and then sink into a bed with 400-thread-count sheets.
We believe in personal service without being stuffy, luxury without pretension, and honoring history while staying relevant. Our team treats guests like actual people, not room numbers.
Plus, we're committed to sustainability. Solar panels on the roof, water reclamation systems, locally-sourced everything in the restaurant. The building survived this long - we wanna make sure the planet does too.
